MEET DR. REID

Dr. David Reid is an expert on two things: Plastic surgery and understanding the needs of his patients. He prides himself on his compassion. He has 28 years of experience as a practicing plastic surgeon and has been board certified for 27 years. He attended medical school at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University.

Dr. Reid served 27 years in the US Navy in both Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom and has been the Assistant Professor in Surgery at two medical schools.

Dr. Reid has been in private practice for 19 years. He and his wife, Kathy, were delighted when they had the opportunity to make the permanent move to Hilton Head island in order to provide the best in plastic surgery care to the residents of the Lowcountry.

The Reids have three children, the oldest of which is an internist in the southeast. Dr. Reid is an avid golfer and Tarheels fan, and plays the trombone in the Hilton Head Plantation Big Band.

Meet the Entire Team

"I think I'm a better listener than most plastic surgeons. It's not a matter of telling a patient what's wrong with their body or their face. It's about learning what bothers a patient or what they'd like to improve, and then working to resolve that."

Top 10 Questions

We're Always Asked

  • How long do dermal fillers last?

Although many fillers last well over 1 year, most patients consider their filler treatments to be an annual affair! At one year, most patients are still happy with their improvements, but feeling the need to be freshened up and rejuvenated.

  • What is the difference between Botox and filler?

Botox is used mostly in the upper face, relaxing harsh facial expressions, softening lines between and around the eyes and providing a more rested and refreshed countenance. Conversely, facial fillers like Juvederm or Radiesse are used to replace lost volume and provided structure along the cheek and jawline, as well as soften lines and folds.

    Learn More about Fillers

  • Will insurance pay for my eyelid surgery?

Insurance will sometimes cover upper eyelid surgery if the degree of excess skin is deemed to be obstructing the patient’s field of vision. If you believe you fall into this category you can request a visual field test from your eye doctor. For those paying out of pocket, however, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is a very reasonably priced cosmetic procedure with minimal downtime in most cases.

  • What can I do about my saggy arms?

A surgical arm lift procedure is called a brachioplasty. Many women choose to hide their arms later in life, unable to wear the shirts and dresses they used to love because they are embarrassed of crepey excessive arm skin. This condition can be effective, leaving only a faint vertical scar on the interior of the arm.

  • Is there a good alternative to surgical face lift?

A surgical facelift is the most effective way to deal with advanced skin laxity, however many are just not ready for or looking for a surgical facelift. Non-surgical options like facial fillers, PDO threads and radiofrequency can be used alone or in combination to achieve substantial improvements.

    Learn More

  • What is the best age for a face lift?

Although patients in their 40s, 50s, and 60s are all great candidates, facelift patients in their 40s will be able to achieve the best and longest lasting results. Maintaining healthy skin until ready for your facelift will help you achieve better outcomes, as well.

    Learn More

  • What is the best way to treat my crepey neck?

A lower face lift or ‘mini’ facelift will effectively excise excess neck skin without producing major changes to the face itself. Collagen inducing skin treatments like microneedling and radiofrequency can be used for further improvements to the quality of the neck skin or used alone when surgery is not desired.

    Learn More

  • What can I do about the lines around my mouth?

Treating an aging mouth typically incorporates small amounts of filler around the mouth, in the lip (to maintain balance between the red and white lip, avoiding a ‘ducky’ appearance), and directly into deeper lines. Collagen inducing treatments like microneedling can be used subsequently to achieve further improvement.

  • What can I do about sagging jowls?

There are many options to improve the appearance of sagging jowls. A surgical facelift is often the most effective choice. For those seeking non-surgical options, a multi-modality treatment plan can include filler, PDO threads, Kybella and energy-based skin tightening are also available.

  • How long does it take to recover from cosmetic surgery?

Patience is a virtue when it comes to recovering from cosmetic surgery!  While every patient and procedure are different, the recovery process can take from 2-3 weeks up to a month or more.  In general, recovery from a facelift traditionally takes 2-3 weeks.  A tummy tuck, however, is a longer recovery process.

I can’t thank you enough for your great medical service that you gave me on Wednesday.  Thank you so much for working me in.  I know you have a tight schedule.  Your staff was great.  You did a great job.  I will definitely recommend you to other people.  Obviously, a lot of people are going to be asking a lot of questions the next couple of weeks.  Keep up the good work.

Jennifer Peden is a great addition to the staff. She is the master of knowing just where to put a filler or a shot of botox that gives results that are amazing, subtle, and simply lets you look like you freshened up your face…….got some good rest! I wouldn’t have anyone else touch my face. I was scared to try any of the procedures until I was introduced to her and agreed to let her fix something small that was bothering me. She has a steady hand, a great personality that puts you at ease, and she knows how to get the results without over doing it. She’s my go to!

Jennifer Peden is truly the angel of aesthetics! As a lifelong dreader of needles, I was very nervous about my appointment, but Jennifer’s calm, reassuring presence is contagious and she put me at ease immediately (and even soon had me laughing). And by the time my appointment was over, I not only loved how I looked, I actually loved the process.
