A facelift can help you look as young as you feel.

With today’s medical advances and technology, we are living longer, healthier, more enjoyable lives than previous generations. So why shouldn’t our faces reflect our “younger” selves?

A facelift is perfect for correcting aging, sagging skin in the mid to lower face, as well as wattle, or “turkey neck” under the chin. In a facelift, cheek and neck skin is loosened from supporting muscles, which are tightened with hidden stitches. Then, the face and neck skin are tightened, and extra skin is removed. Although the cheeks are also tightened, the procedure could realistically be called a neck lift.

When the cheeks droop more than the neck, a subperiosteal facelift is in order. The tissue on top of and below the cheekbones is repositioned atop the cheekbones, making the cheeks more pronounced and stronger looking.

If sagging is not too severe, a mini-facelift is a good alternative. But, beware of doctors who offer the patented “Lift” procedure. Many are not trained in the full range of facial surgery. Your best, and safest, choice is a surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery; they can be easily verified via the internet.
